Wooden Snowman Ornament

Let’s make a snowman ornament!

Embrace the spirit of creativity and add a touch of warmth to your holiday decor by transforming simple wooden snowman ornament materials into adorable snowmen ornaments that will undoubtedly steal the spotlight on your Christmas tree. I love that these snowman ornaments are rustic and that you are able to customize the little scarf that it is wearing. Whether you’re a seasoned crafter or a newcomer to the world of DIY, this festive project promises joy, laughter, and a dash of holiday spirit. I like to add the year and my initials on the bottom of the last bead to have a memory when it was made. Gather your supplies, unleash your imagination, and let’s create a winter wonderland one snowman at a time!

supply list for your wooden snowman ornament:

  • Cotton cord (1)
  • Wooden bead (barrel-shaped)
  • (3) Wooden beads (round, unfinished)
  • (1) Large button (drilled hole in the middle) OR (1) Wooden toy wheel 1/4″ hole stained or even colored with a brown sharpie)
  • Sharpies- Orange and black
  • Ribbon 6″ long Tape
  • Scissors
  • Drill (optional)
  • Stain (optional)

step-by-step instructions to make your own snowman ornament:

  1. If you are using an unfinished wooden disc you can stain it and let it dry, if you are using a large button you can drill your hole first. (Always get an adult to help with this step!)

2. Wrap two pieces of tape around the end of the cotton cord to make it easier to string the beads through. I like to keep the cord attached to the spool until the end.

add tape to the top of cord to avoid freying

3. String the (3) round wooden beads onto the cord, then the wooden disc/button, and finally the barrel-shaped bead.

4. At the top near the barrel bead, leave a long tail and create a loop at the top for hanging your snowman ornament. At the bottom of the loop, you will tie a knot, and then wrap the knot a few times to create some bulk so that the beads don’t slip through. Trim the excess tail.

5. Slide the beads up and leaving a long tail at the bottom cut the cord from the spool. You will now create a knot at the bottom to secure the beads. Make sure there are no large gaps between the beads. Tie a few knots at the bottom to prevent the beads from slipping out. Trim the tail.

6. Cut your ribbon about 6″ long or so, and tie it around the cord between the first two beads. Trim if needed.

7. Using your black Sharpie draw two eyes and a mouth, and with the orange Sharpie make a thin triangle for his carrot nose.
