Supplies Needed for Handmade Valentine Heart Doodle Greeting Cards:
- Cardstock- I used white.
- Scrap paper-to practice
- Sharpie
- Pencil, eraser
- Markers-I like to pick 2 or 3 colors that go together. I used Crayola washable super tips.
- Scissors for paper, or paper cutter (get an adult to help if using this)
step-by-step instructions to make valentine heart doodle greeting cards:
1. Start by folding your paper, and cut if necessary. Using an 8.5 x 11″ sheet of cardstock, you can make 2 smaller cards or one larger one. You can also play around with the orientation of the card and how you want it to open.
2. Draw overlapping hearts with your pencil on the front of your card, it might be helpful to practice a few hearts on a scrap piece of paper to see what you like the best before using your cardstock.
3. Once you have the hearts on your card how you like them, erase where the lines overlap so some hearts are behind other ones.
4. Trace the outline of the hearts with a Sharpie making sure you outline the parts you want to show, not the overlapped parts.
5. Choose the markers you like and start to doodle/color inside the hearts with the markers. I like to use different patterns on each of them.
6. Trace the black Sharpie thicker if you want the black outline to be bolder. Write your Valentine’s message inside. Now you are ready to give your handmade card to all of your loved ones!
In summary: Draw overlapping hearts with your pencil on the front of your card. Practice hearts on scrap paper to find the best style. Erase where the lines overlap to create depth. Trace the hearts with a Sharpie, outlining only the parts you want to show. Use markers to doodle and color inside the hearts, using different patterns. Thicken the black Sharpie outline for a bolder look. Write your Valentine’s message inside and give your handmade card to loved ones.

Can I use a different black marker for my handmade Valentine heart doodle greeting cards?
You can, if that is all you have. I would just be cautious of smudging and the washable markers blending, if you don’t have a Sharpie you can use a black marker just be aware when you are coloring so they don’t smudge together.
Can I use regular printer paper?
Yes, it will be a great card! Just put some scrap paper between while you are coloring so the markers don’t bleed through. I like to use cardstock so it is more sturdy but any paper you have will work! How fun was that? I hope you’ve enjoyed creating these handmade Valentine heart doodle greeting cards with your kids. These handmade cards are not just pieces of paper; they are expressions of love and care. As you exchange your homemade doodle cards, remember the joy that comes from creating together.
