This Fall leaf clay garland can add a festive touch to your home. I love searching for the leaves to add to the clay pieces, it is a great way to get outside and then create something from the great outdoors. This craft is a fun activity to do on a Fall afternoon to enjoy with your kids.
supply list for clay garland:
- Model magic clay-I used white and painted it, but you could also get different colors, and not paint them.
- Leaves gathered from outside
- Acrylic paint
- String/twine
- Rolling pin/Marker
- Butter knife, or other clay tools
- Parchment paper
- Paintbrush
- Cup of water
- Paper towel
- Paper plate
step-by-step instructions to make clay felt garland:
- Gather a variety of leaves from outside.
- Roll out clay using an acrylic rolling pin or a marker with smooth edges. Place your leaf on top with the veined side of the leaves facing the clay. Roll to about 1/8″-1/4″ thick.
3. Cut the excess clay away from the sides of the leaf.
4. Using the side of your tool, smooth out the edges of the leaf, and try not to touch the top so the indentations from the leaf stay.
5. Using a pointed tool, or a pen cap, create a hole in the top of your leaf. Create as many leaves as you like, and let them dry completely up, usually 24 hours.
6. Paint your leaves, and let them dry completely.
7. Loop a small piece of twine through the hole, and tie a double knot to secure it.
8. Thread your finished leaves onto your ribbon/twine, and hang your clay garland up to decorate!
