  • Scissors – Ensure they are safe and suitable for kids to use.
  • Popsicle Stick (Optional) – You can use this to wrap the yarn for easy weaving.

step-by-step instructions to create a beautiful paper plate weaving project:

  1. Mark lines about 2 1/2″ apart on the plate, and cut 1/2″ into the plate all the way around.

2. Using the yarn that you will be attaching to the plate and weaving through, leave a tail about 6″ long, and starting from the back leave the tail and start to thread through the cuts you just made.

3. Once you have threaded the yarn through all cut areas, leave a tail and tie the two tails together on the back.

4. With your first color of yarn, tie the end to a piece of the yarn attached to the plate near the center, to secure.

5. Take a small amount of yarn and either wrap it around a popsicle stick or into a small ball. Using an over/under pattern weave your yarn through the strands on the plate, tightening them as you go.

6. To add a new color, tie the two ends of yarn together and continue weaving. You can tuck the ends to the back of the weaving to hide them.

7. When you are finished with your weaving, cut the yarn and tie the end to one of the strands attached to the plate.

8. To secure the weaving, take the strands attached to the plate off and tie knots close to the edge of the weaving, Trim as needed. You can hang it as art, use it as a coaster, and more!
