Pumpkin Pin Cushion

supply list:

  • Felt-orange, brown, and cream (The total size of the pin cushion is 3″ x 3″)
  • Poly-fil or felt scraps
  • Embroidery floss-this can be a coordinating or something that stands out.
  • Fabric scissors
  • Chenille needle (big eye, sharp tip)

step-by-step instructions for a pumpkin pin cushion:

  1. Measure and cut your cream felt, you will need (2) 3″ x 3″. Round off the corners.

2. For the pumpkin shape, I use a 3″ x 3″ square and then fold it in half and round off the edges until it’s the size I want. I curve the top/bottom edges.

3. Cut a small rectangle for the stem.

4. Take the top cream felt and place the pumpkin and stem on top. Thread your needle, and tie a knot at the end. You will hide your knot in the back.

5. Using a whipstitch attach the pumpkin and stem to the front of your cream felt. When you need to change thread or you run out, create a loop in the back and tie a knot to secure it.

6. When you have completed the front piece you will use the blanket stitch to sew around the edges. Start between the two felt pieces to hide your knot. Do a duplicate stitch to lock it in.

7. Stitch around your pin cushion leaving a small opening to stuff it.

8. Stuff your pin cushion with poly-fil and any felt scraps you had from earlier.

9. Finish sewing your pin cushion closed, duplicate stitch at the end, and cut your thread.

10. You did it! What a cute little pin cushion!
